Kristin & Shawn
Wedding in Matera
The baseball player Shawn Kelley and his partner Kristina celebrated their wedding in Italy in November. They chose to celebrate their wedding in an intimate way, with their closest family, in one of the most suggestive places in all of Italy: Matera.
The couple decided to welcome their overseas guests with a welcome dinner at Palazzo Gattini. The ceremony and the reception, instead, took place at Masseria Fortificata San Francesco.
The month of November is very warm in Southern Italy cities such as Matera, therefore we arranged a beautiful set for the outdoor ceremony, on a transparent platform mounted directly in the pool. The couple almost seemed to float on the water and the sunset light created a magical background, making this moment even more romantic.
The dinner, however, was held in one of the famous caves of Matera, recognizable by the ivory color of the tuff sculpted millions of years ago by the sea.
The floral palette has been designed to enhance this place: white flowers, with a slight tendency to ivory, and hints of nude color. We didn’t use any type of green in the arrangments, just to offer a contrast between the materiality of the stone and the purity of the flowers.
In the background of the cave, the newlyweds’ table had a very particular floral backdrop: a flower wall with an unusual shape, which seemed to grow spontaneously on the wall of the cave. Also this flower wall is a riot of white flowers, above all English O’Hara roses, but also dehydrated and bleached leaves.
Among the details of this elegant reception, the wedding cake stands out, created for the occasion by the talented Marco Failla, inspired by the stones of Matera too.
